Disastrous high speed rail crash in China in 2012 was caused by a number of factors, the most important being design errors in the control technologies.
The first train's on-board electronic systems were knocked out by lightning and it stopped. The railway control systems could not see it on the track. Consequently, the controllers did not stop the next train, and it ploughed into the back of the stationary train. Around 40 people were killed and 200 injured because of design errors in the control systems.i. |
